4th SHINJU-KAI MALAYSIA ANNIVERSARY AND 1ST CAMP

The Johor Bahru chapter of Aikido Shinju-kai had its 1st Annual Camp at Hotel Grand Paragon, Johor Bahru, from the 24th to 26th July 2009.

We were honored to have Philip Lee Sensei, Allan Lai Sensei and Chew Sensei to conduct the Aikido workshops on this 3-day event.

With more than 20 participants from Singapore & even Indonesia, the local participants had great time interacting and sparring with their foreign counterparts.

Besides the adults, the children thoroughly enjoyed the Children’s Class, conducted by Instructor Lim Cheen Cheen. The children were all smiles and gave their thumb up to the lessons.

The Anniversary Dinner was filled with speeches, prize presentation, games and many “Yum Sengs”. There were a lot of fun and laughter. Prizes were aplenty with the Grand Prize, a DVD camcorder worth RM 1,075 sponsored by Sensei Philip Lee.
This camp has taught both the local participants and organisers a lot of important lessons. It was an eye-opener for us. Everyone had a great time, enjoying themselves, meeting new friends and learning new skills. We will be looking forward for the next camp.

Ju Ai Aikido -
Ju stand for soft.
Ai stand for harmony or love.

Our belief is that Aikido is a non-aggressive form of martial arts which through its gentle movements promotes love and harmony. In order to attain balance in our lives, Aikido teaches us to turn the hard into soft, hate into love and to apply this to our everyday thinking, action and feelings.

In May 2005, Sensei Philip Lee set up the Aikido Shinju-kai Malaysia in Johor Bahru. Sensei Philip Lee’s tireless effort and professional guidance built up the foundation of what is to become the now, Ju Ai Aikido. He was assisted by a team of dedicated and able instructors namely Instructor Tey, Instructor Starr as well as Instructor Felix.

Ju Ai Aikido was set up in 8th August 2008 by four young members with the blessings and full trust of Sensei Philip Lee without whom the birth of Ju Ai Aikido would not have been possible. Under the guidance of Sensei Philip Lee and the three instructors, Ju Ai Aikido today continues to improve and evolve.

The founding members are Goh Chee Meng & Bryan Loi as Instructors, and Aw Man Keen & Calvin Choo as Assistant instructors. Our current dojos are located in different parts of Johor Bahru :-)

Feel free to drop by and train with us.

Senshi Aikido
Offically opened by Philip Lee Sensei on 10 June, 2009
Pontian, Johor, Malaysia

From a white belt in the beginning to a blue belt now, Aikido has “Tenkan” (ie. turned around) my life in many ways.

When Pontian Dojo just started, we only had a few beginners. Now, the number of members is increasing day by day! I believe that the birth of Pontian Dojo is something new and exciting and has created a big impact in this small town.

The opening ceremony of our dojo was an amazing experience. All of us helped to make preparations, mopped the dojo, arranged the food and cleaned up after the whole event. Although everyone was tired at the end of the day, it was an enjoyable experience because everyone chipped in to do their part.

On the day of opening, Philip Lee Sensei, Chew Sensei, Allan Sensei, and lots of other instructors and seniors came from Singapore. There were so many of them that there was no space left in the dojo! There were deafening shouts of kokyo push, “Hei Ho!” and “Hei Sha”!

This experience was so powerful and touched me so much that no words can describe the intensity of my feelings at that time.
It was an evening of excitement, moving emotions and great impact!
