Aikido Shinju-kai's 15th anniversary celebration was a four-day affair and things got started on Friday the 21st of February with the arrival of all our overseas participants throughout the day. Members of Aikido Shinju-kai assisted in picking up and sending our guests to the Pan Pacific Hotel (where the seminars and celebration were to take place) for check-in. A dinner was held that night to welcome all our overseas guests.

Our esteemed Guest-of-Honour Hiroshi Tada Shihan 9th Dan

We were very fortunate to have many shihans attend our anniversary seminar/celebration: Ken Cottier Shihan (6th Dan), Hironobu Yamada Shihan (7th Dan), Ikuhiro Kubota Shihan (7th Dan), Takeki Tsuboi (7th Dan), Kenji Koyama Shihan (7th Dan) and last but definitely not least, our esteemed guest of honour Hiroshi Tada Shihan (9th Dan).

The seminars held next day were kick-started off by Philip Lee Sensei, who conducted the first class at 8 a.m. at a huge training area that consisted of three adjoining ballrooms at the Pan Pacific. The other seminars that followed were conducted by Cottier Shihan (seminar 2) and Yamada Shihan (seminar 3). There was a break for lunch before the day was rounded off by seminars by Kubota Shihan (seminar 4) and Tada Shihan (seminar 5).

The next day saw more exciting classes; these were taken by Tsuboi Shihan (seminar 6), Koyama Shihan (seminar 7) and Tada Shihan (seminar 8). After seminar 8, there was a photo session with Tada Shihan and all our other guest shihans. We then broke for lunch and then waited in anticipation for the upcoming embukai featuring all our overseas participants and our guest shihans. The embukai was open to the public and many of the curious wandered in for a peek and were quickly amazed by the sheer gracefulness of the participants.

The embukai lasted an hour and soon everyone was off to their rooms to rest and recuperate for the dinner and dance celebration to be held later in the evening. There were many interesting performances during the dinner and dance, and the single event that stood out most in the minds of all who attended was perhaps the dedication of a breed of orchid to Tada Shihan. Named after our venerable guest of honour, the Dendrobium Hiroshi Tada is a gorgeous yellow coloured flower with a rich purple heart. The food and wine flowed freely during the dinner as we all drank, made merry, and let our hair down and danced the night away.

All good things must come to an end however, and the next day saw the departure of our guests in the late afternoon and evening after some sightseeing around Singapore in the morning. It was truly a wonderful celebration and all thanks goes out to everyone who made it a success.
