GETTING STARTED! For New Beginners & Overseas Visitors.

For New Beginners interested to join our Aikido class (a step-by-step guide)

1. Aikido is a soft martial art suitable for all ages. Children classes are for those age 5-12. Adults classes are for those age 13 & above. There is no age limit in Aikido, as long as you can still move, you can do Aikido :)

2. If you are unsure whether this is the correct art that you are looking for, you are most welcome to visit any of our Dojos (training centers) to take a look at how the classes are conducted and talk to the Instructor.

3. You will also need to decide which Dojo you wish to join on a regular basis. This will be your PRINCIPAL DOJO, where you train once a week. You can:
A. Check for class slots at our Headquarters Dojo (near Moonstone Lane / Poh Leng Building)
B. Check for a Dojo at a CC near you or a club you join

4
. You can go directly to the Dojo of your choice and talk to the Instructor about joining. The Instructor will brief you on the essential fees and attire and you can join on the spot. If you do not have the training attire during your first class, you can wear a comfortable shirt and track pants.

5. As Aikido is an on-going class, it is not organised by a what you learn from lesson 1 to lesson 10. Rather, you can join us ANYTIME! You will be taught the basics during the first few lessons, after which you join the main class to train. We are structured by a Grading Syllabus that determines how many lessons and the minimum time of training required before you progress to the next grade.

6. It is perfectly normal to be very confused about the techniques and names of movements. Try to partner the senior belts and they will be very happy to guide you.

7. You can download and fill up a copy of the Membership Application Form and bring 2 current photos along. You will need to pay these fees when you sign up:
A. Registration Fee to join Shinju-kai as a member (includes Membership Book & Student Handbook)
B. Membership Fees (pro-rated when you first join and subsequently collected annually)
C. Training Fees (usually paid directly at the Dojo periodically )

8. You will also need to purchase a set of training attire consisting of a jacket, pants and belt. You can give us a call or email us 1 week before so that we can arrange the Instructor to bring the attire to the dojo for you.

9. If you are interested to train more classes, you can ask the Instructor about our Multi-Dojo scheme.

10. If you have any further queries or concerns, feel free to email us at hq@aikidoshinjukai.com or call us at 62560111 / 96813111 / 91116287 and we will be happy to assist you.
