The SMU Aikido Club was founded in September 2002 with a humble beginning of about 20 members. The Dojo used to be housed within the historical Bukit Timah campus, before SMU shifted to the city campus. Currently, the members train at the SMU sports hall, located on the 3rd floor of the SMU Administration Building.

To know more about the family-like club, you simply have to join it. The next best alternative is to hear it from former and present club members themselves!

“SMU Aikido Club has an important place in my heart. Although I have graduated, I still miss the good old times we had at Bukit Timah campus where students and instructors had forged great relationships and not forgetting the desire to master the 'forward roll' that made me dash for aikido training every thur night!”
- Zhong Ting

“Aikido enables me to de-stress after my long hours of school!”
- Chun Fei

“SMU aikido has been an integral part of my university life. I will purposely arrange my Thursday classes in the evening, so that I can go for aikido after that! Well, aikido is not just a dojo with people exercising on the tatami mats, it is a community where we learn, practise and teach each other. You progress at your own pace and set your own targets. Not only do aikido helped me to relax and keep fit, it clears my mind and focus.”
– Kai Lin

“My time in SMU Aikido Club has not only allowed me to gain new perspectives on the art, but also better prepares me for challenges I may encounter in life.”
- Kenny Tay

"I believe that in the whole of the SMU Bukit Timah Campus, the dojo is the place where I've smiled the most, laughed the hardest, and hurt the worst physically). I do like the throwing, the rolling, the slamming, and even receiving slams. But I think what made Aikido special for me was the presence of people like Denny, Mana, and the whole Jabronee crew. Who else could make Thursday nights (as they were back then) so enjoyable?”
- Darren Lim
